Are cats actually loyal or not?

Most people are happy to be put in one of those 2 categories

  • Cat person

  • Dog person

I guess it can be true statement, both species are very different.

The idea is that cats are independent and only stay with the owner because they are being fed.

The other idea is that dogs are faithful and loyal and will follow their owner to their death.

Well, let me tell you my theory on dogs and cats...the exact same than everybody else"!

I have to admit that there is a truth behind the cliché.

I think that is where someone's ego can be extremely challenged and hurt when an animal decides to love someone else more than you.

Everyone wants to feel love and being rejected by a furry pet can be extremely hard to accept.

Rejection is rejection in the end, you do question what is wrong with you and why that creature cannot see the love you have for him or her and this can be more than upsetting.

Having gone through it several times myself, I can see how some “parents” would find it hard to accept, but it is one of those life mysteries when letting go is actually the best option for all parties.

Your happiness and ego have to be left behind for the animal happiness.

Living with a dog

I always considered myself a cat person and then we had our first dog when I was around 9.

He was a German sheperd from a rescue and the relationship is indeed so different.

He was well behaved, and you could teach him tricks.

But he was also a bigger responsibility as well.

Dogs need to be walked at least three times a day for obvious reasons but also for their wellbeing.

But this is also good for our wellbeing because it makes us walk more and be in fresh air which overall is all positive.

And that is all true when you have a lovely summer morning, or a gentle spring sunday morning.

But it can be challenging during winter times and when life is stressful, or you are under time restrictions.

My first dog was lovely as mentioned but he was not actually my DOG.

Then I had another dog, a lovely yorky given to my a friend for my birthday. He was a funny little thing differently challenging being a long hair dogs.

It does require different attention and I can understand how people can make mistakes with handle different dogs.

They have a way to get you to love them but until I had my Charlotte I did not realise the true meaning of dog’s best friend.

Finding your true best friend

There can be a special bound between human and animals and this is not something you can build up.

Until it happens to you, it is very hard to describe.

You might think that you love your dog and you definitely do but that special relationship does not happen each time you have a dog or a cat.

And once you had it with a furry baby, I would think it is even harder to get.

But I am disgracing slightly from the purpose of this blog, which is about answering if cats are actually dis-loyal animals or not.

And my answer is yes, they are loyal to their well-being.

Cats have the ability contrary to dogs to experience different household much more freely and I believe this is why cats are seen as less loyal but if you have a cat that comes home to you every night then that cat is a true friend.

Opportunity vs loyalty

In my opinion any animal, dog, cat, rabbit and so on…would move house if they wanted to and had the opportunity.

As mentioned cats are free roamer, they leave the house every day for an adventure and they go house to house.

They sometimes get fed at several houses, have naps at different places.

Eventually they find the place where they feel confortable.

If a cat is nervous where children are and you have a house with children but 3 houses away, there is an old lady leaving on her own being calm and settle, and that cat likes quietness, that cat will decide to stay at that other house.

This is not because he does not love you but because he discovered a place which suits his personality better.

I can guarantee that if dogs had the same freedom, the same would happen to them as well.

The difference is that a dog does not roam and does not have the opportunity to look for a better place.

So this is my conclusion, cats are as loyal as dogs.
